Build Season Week 3 Recap
Written by AdamBot Student on January 25, 2014
Our third week was another busy one, cut short by yet another day off school due to low temperatures on Friday that made our Saturday build the most hectic yet. All teams have been powering forward, however, in pursuit of their goals.
This week the Chassis Team accomplished a lot this past week. We were able to finish both of our frames as well as fully complete one of our chassis. After exam week we will be finishing our other chassis.
The Ball Shooter Team has been working on finalizing the shooter design. The shooter is almost completely drawn by our CAD team, and most of the dimensions are final. We plan to begin assembling parts on Saturday and continue on throughout the week as we receive completed parts from our Fabrication team.
This week, the Ball Acquisition Team was mainly finishing CAD for the design. CAD should be finished by the end of the week so we can continue building…Read More
Interview with Mr. Hildebrandt

What do you do on the team? For what sub-teams do you mentor?
I’m actually the head team mentor. I’m the one that is actually the connection to the school. That’s actually where Stoney Creek has a problem because they don’t have a head mentor so they can’t get a team together. They don’t have anyone who wants to do it. As far as sub-teams, normally I’m in charge of the chassis. That’s just something I’ve done over the years. Keeping it consistent and durable, that’s the main thing. I’m also in charge of securing all the supplies and anything we get as far as materials goes. I’m in charge of the credit card, so to speak. It’s under my name, so I have to make sure it balances at the end of every month, which is always interesting, just trying to find all the receipts. So I take care of that kind of stuff, management as well.
How long have you been a mentor for the AdamBots?
This is going to be my 17th year for FIRST. I did 6 years with Rochester, so this will be my 11th [with the AdamBots]…Read More
Build Season Weeks 1 & 2 Recap
Written by AdamBot Student on January 18, 2014
With the reveal of Aerial Assist, FRC is back, and for the past two weeks, we have been working on our design and strategy for the new season.
On Sunday, January 5th,we had our annual team design meeting at Crittenton Hospital to discuss ideas for the upcoming game. We have been working very hard to get ready for the season as quickly and efficiently as possible, especially since there were three snow days in week one that scrambled our schedule.
The Chassis Team met for the first time this week. We learned about the type of wheels that we use on our robots and continued to assemble them after separating our team in to two groups.
The Ball Acquisition Team has been working closely together with other engineering teams this week. We have built prototypes and tested them out, some going better than others. We have been in discussion about which shooting mechanism to use for our robot, and have come up with a punching/slingshot design that is not official yet.
The Ball Shooter Team has been working with the other build teams to build prototypes of different types of shooters to decide on the optimal design. The manipulator team worked mostly on a “puncher” design while the above chassis team worked on a “slingshot” design. We have come to an unofficial consensus as to what we want to build, and the teams have begun working on producing that design…Read More
