The 2017 Season

The 2017 season was an exciting time for the AdamBots. In this year’s steampunk-themed game, Steamworks, alliances collect gears to place on pegs and move rotors, shoot fuel balls into low and high goals, and climb a rope at the end of the match. We created our highly functional robot Arabella to score gears, low-goal fuel, and climb the rope at the end of the match. We had a very successful year, winning the Chairman’s Award at the Michigan State Championship and ranking fourth in our division at the World Championship!

Kettering 1st District Event

At the competition, we were seeded in 5th place after qualifications, with a record of eight wins and four losses. As the fourth alliance captain, we moved on to the elimination rounds alongside team 5697, the Bearcats, and team 6098, blrobot. In the quarterfinals, we were eliminated after three matches. However, we were awarded with the FIRST Pit Safety Award as well as a the Peer Review Award from one of the other teams competing, the Titanium Tigers. We are also incredibly proud that we were awarded with the Kettering University District 1 Chairman’s Award!

Troy District Event

This weekend, from March 31st to April 1st, the Adambots participated in the Troy District Competition in Troy Athens High school. Throughout Friday, we played in 9 matches, winning three and losing six. We ended up the 26th ranked team, so we had to work hard the next day. On Saturday, all three of our matches were victories, leaving us ranked 17th out of 42 teams. We were picked by the 6th ranked alliance captain, the Hammerheads, Team 226. Along with Crevolution, Team 2851, we faced the 3rd ranked alliance. We narrowly lost in the quarterfinal tiebreaker. However, despite this, our captain Aliza King was awarded the Star of the Day award, and the team won the Imagery Award!

Michigan State Championship

The AdamBots competed in the Michigan State Championship against 159 other top teams in the state! Thursday through Friday we played qualification matches in the highly competitive Dow Division. We ended these matches with a 4-8 record and in rank 37 due to difficulties climbing the rope. However, team 5150 the Hybrid Hornets selected us as their first pick, securing us a spot on the 7th seed alliance for elimination matches. We also joined with our sister team, 5436 the Cyber Cats. This was far from the end of our success though. Throughout the competition six minor safety awards are given. We earned three of them and were runners-up for the Industrial Safety Award. Furthermore, we earned the Entrepreneurship Award for our business plan and team strategies. The championship ended with an even greater achievement—the Regional Chairman’s Award! As this is the highest honor available at this competition, it automatically qualifies us to compete at the St. Louis World Championship. We are proud to be the only team in history to have won both the Chairman’s Award and Entrepreneurship Award at a district championship!

World Championship in St. Louis

The AdamBots traveled to St. Louis for the northern half of the world championship! Arriving Wednesday, we played practice matches and explored the venue. We played ten qualification matches in the Archimedes division throughout Thursday and Friday. We are proud to have ranked fourth out of these 68 teams! Saturday morning we advanced to become the third seed alliance captains and selected the teams 188 Blizzard, 3539 Byting Bulldogs, and 1025 IMPI Robotics. We narrowly lost the second match, ending our alliance’s progress at the quarterfinals. Nonetheless, our ranking alone makes this championship a roaring success for the AdamBots.
