2019 FRC Blogs: 2019 Game Reveal
This past weekend, the 2019 FIRST Robotics game, Destination: Deep Space, was revealed! Teams from all over the world joined the live stream to learn about the game and its features. The AdamBots held their own personal kickoff at Emagine Entertainment; a special thanks to Emagine Entertainment for hosting at their Rochester Hills theatre! The global kickoff marks the beginning of the build season, a 6-week period during which teams have design, build, and program a robot for the competition season.
Destination: Deep Space involves two alliances trying to fill their cargo ships and rockets placed in the field with hatch panels, large discs that are attached to the ships, and then cargo, balls that fill bays to score points. Robots on the field begin and end in their “habitat zones” at the ends of the field at different levels of elevation to score different amounts of points. This year, a completely new feature was added to the game. At the beginning of each match, the field is blocked from view of the drivers, so teams can choose to either use driver control with vision assistance on their robot or the typical autonomous with no driver control.
The next day, the team met in the Ascension Providence Hospital auditorium to begin creating a strategy for the season. For the next week, students and mentors will work together to finalize a strategy and, later, create and prototype designs for the robot.
At the end of February, we will be hosting our annual Meet the AdamBots open house. We hope to see you there!
