Graduated in 2014
Grade: 12
Years on Team: 2
Sub-Teams: CAD, Digital Media, and Business Plan
What are 2 fun facts about you?
I am the captain of our school’s marching band color guard.
I love to exercise in my free time.
Why did you join the AdamBots?
I’ve always been interested in engineering, but I really joined because a friend who was on the team kept mentioning it and encouraging me to join. Also, I plan to study mechanical engineering next year at Grand Valley, so I thought it would be helpful in preparing myself for that.
What is your favorite memory from robotics?
My favorite memory was being on the drive team for the All-Girls FIRST Competition. It was so exciting to see what goes on outside of the stands and to be a part of the action. Plus, I got to hang out with girls on the team who I had never really gotten to know before.
What have you learned from being on the team?
I’ve learned a lot about engineering, design concepts, CAD, and build. But even more than that, I’ve learned so much about teamwork, organizing, dividing work, time management, and responsibility from being on both engineering and business sub-teams.
What is special about FIRST?
The most amazing thing about FIRST is that, unlike other sporting events or competitions, there’s more gracious professionalism versus serious competitiveness. FIRST encourages us to learn new things and gain experience instead of getting caught up in the heat of competition. Which is important, because the skills we learn when participating in FIRST are skills we will use for the rest of our lives.
