What are 2 fun facts about you?
I know approximately a dozen computer languages, a handful very well, and I actually really love doing math, especially proofs. I am a fraternal twin.
The popular description appears to be “non-identical identical twin.” Also, recently, to tell us apart, “Nathan where’s Nike’s”. I wear New Balance right now, and their logo is a giant N, so I really don’t understand how this helps.
Why did you join the AdamBots?
It look really fun and awesome. I really underestimated it—it’s the most awesome thing I’ve ever been a part of!
What is your favorite memory from robotics?
My favorite memory was watching Team 4377, Boyne City Blaze come out onto the field with pool noodles at the Michigan State Championship for Ultimate Ascent. I have never heard louder cheers than when this second-year team defeated the cross-court shooting of Team 67, HOT.
What have you learned from being on the team?
I’ve learned how to put CAD & programming skills into a real industrial project. Putting it together toward a real end is totally different from working in a classroom.
What are you excited about for FIRST?
As students, we’re really expected to learn, to get ready for the world and work. At the same time, the superstars out in the world are not what we’re told to be doing. We spend Sundays watching football or catching up on celebrities, while we’re told mathematics and science are the important subjects in school. The goal of FIRST is to make the engineers the celebrities, but not just the engineers of the previous generation. FIRST lets kids become superstars. It lets us build skills in industry and relationships with friends and mentors. FIRST is incredibly unique, and that’s a shame, because what they do and stand for is absolutely amazing.
