What are 2 fun facts about you?
In addition to the AdamBots, I am a member of the debate team and DECA
I constantly misplace things. Either that or my pens and water bottles like to go on week-long vacations.
Why did you join the AdamBots?
I remember my first year at Adams was exciting and overwhelming, but the momentous event of that year was the pep assembly. That was the first time that I heard of The AdamBots, and quite frankly, I was astonished that kids my age were accomplishing so much. I wanted to be a part of a cohesive team; to help and learn in a way that was not only educational but fun.
What is your favorite memory from robotics?
Over the years, I have made friends, learned a lot, and helped to teach others. Although there are many great memories to choose from, I think that my favorite one is going to the FIRST World Championship. The stadium was filled with people who cheered for robots shooting discs because it was exciting! We were all gathered to watch and cheer for our combined efforts and our successes in science, technology, and engineering. It was great to finally see robotics receive the attention it deserves. When we returned to Michigan, students would congratulate us and ask questions about our team. Walking down the Adams hallway in my AdamBots shirt, I felt proud that all of our hard work paid off.
What have you learned from being on the team?
Besides the technical lessons, such as how to operate the website or to utilize a hand tool, I have learned how to work with others and the importance of listening to everyone’s thoughts and ideas. As the leader of the Digital Media team, I learned the importance of cooperation and organization. Being on the team, has taught me how to be a better leader and team member, and for these reasons, I am glad to be and AdamBot.
What is special about FIRST?
The atmosphere of FIRST competitions and FIRST itself is simply phenomenal. During the competitions, you can feel the competitive tensions and team pride, but when the matches finish, you can feel the overwhelming camaraderie between teams and genuine pride for just being a part of FIRST. Every time I go to a new program, I try to wear my team shirt, because I almost always find another FIRST team member, and it gives us something to talk about. The pride of our teams and FIRST itself is what gives FIRST its unique atmosphere.
