Mrs. D
Year you started mentoring for the team: 2000
Role: I am the Adambots Team Coordinator
What are 2 fun facts about you?
I listen to the Harry Potter books every night and over the years must have heard the entire series 40 plus times.
I love to play board games and trivia. I have a weekly board game night with friends, and I play bar trivia weekly with my family.
Why did you join the Adambots?
Originally, I joined to help the teacher/mentor the second year the team was started so my sons could have a robotics team to join. I stayed with it because of the program. Kids were getting so much out of being on the team, more than just making robots. They were learning life skills, making friendships, learning what it means to be a team player.
What is your favorite memory from robotics?
I’ve had so many in the past 25 years! 2003 stands out for being the first season that the Adambots won a competition and received their first Blue Banner! 2005 stands out for being the year that the Adambots made it to the World Championship Finals on Einstein Field. 2006 stands out for being the first year that the Adambots earned a Regional Chairman’s Award. Another favorite would be helping the Lambots from Mexico start their team, meeting with them in San Antonio for the Alamo Regional.
What have you learned from being on the team?
That our students are our future; they work hard and play hard and come up with some of the best ideas ever!.
What is special about FIRST?
The people that I have had the chance to meet, get to know and work with. Alumni still return to say ‘hi’ and sometimes they stay to help for a while.
