Becky Everson
Year you started mentoring the team: 2009 as a Student, 2021 as a Mentor
Sub-teams: Project Management,PR
What are 2 fun facts about you?I was the AdamBots team captain in 2012 and I’ve been to Antarctica!
Why did you join the AdamBots? As a student I joined the AdamBots to make friends with like-minded students and learn more about engineering in a hands-on way. As a mentor I joined to give back to my old team (and the Drummers of course!) and help students connect with other young professionals.
What is your favorite memory from robotics?Being on the floor at Worlds in 2012 when I was on the drive team. I did a lot of cheerleading while on the team, and it was really fun to be on the receiving end!
What have you learned from being on the team?AdamBots can present themselves in such a professional way. I’m constantly impressed by our PR and other business sub-teams. I’m also impressed that the team spirit has carried us through a pandemic. AdamBots can overcome anything!
Do you have any tips for the current AdamBots?Respect your commitments and responsibilities, but speak up if you have a new idea or need to try something different. Robotics club is a great place to try lots of new skills, and just because the team isn’t doing something doesn’t mean it’s a bad idea. Just ask!
What is special about FIRST?FIRST doesn’t favor one type of student or skill. The best teams are made up of all kinds of people and abilities.
