2001: Diabolical Dynamics

Diabolical Dynamics consisted of four teams working together as an alliance to try to achieve as high a score as possible in each match. All teams on the field shared the same score at the end of the match.

The Field

Diabolical Dynamics was played on a carpeted, rectangular field. The field was divided in half by an 18 inch high railing with a bridge that could tilt towards either side of the field or remain level. Two 7 feet tall moveable goals began on opposite sides of the field. Alliance stations were located on the opposite sides of the field.

Game Pieces

The game pieces consisted of small and large balls. Teams begin with 20 small balls in their alliance station. There were also 20 small balls and four small balls located at the far end of the playing field. These balls served as a way to score points.

Game Period

The alliance had to score as many small and large balls into the goals to rack up points. Before the end of the match, an alliance would have a chance to score bonus points for having a robot in the End Zone, a designated area located directly in front of the alliance station. The game period lasted a total of two minutes.

Scoring

Alliances scored one point for each small ball in a goal, ten points for each large ball, ten points for every robot in the End Zone, and ten points if the stretcher was in the End Zone. Points were doubled if an alliance was able to score a goal that was on the bridge. The alliance would multiply its score by a factor of up to three by ending the match before the two minute time limit. A team also had a chance to multiple their score by 1.1 if its large ball was on top of a goal. All scores were added
and rounded up to the nearest whole point.
