The 2011 Season

The 2011 season proved to be an exceptional year for the AdamBots.  They began the year by agreeing to mentor a rookie team from Mexico, the Lambots, FRC Team 3478.  Team members used Facebook, Skype, and phone calls to communicate with the Lambots.  Team mentors from Mexico came to meet with AdamBots team mentors and took information back to their team on several occasions.

Alamo Regional Event

The AdamBots traveled to San Antonio to participate in the 2011 inaugural FIRST Alamo Regional and meet their rookie team, Team LamBot 3478, for the first time.  It may seem like a week 1 competition at an inaugural regional is a recipe for failure.  But the administration and volunteers of the Alamo Regional ran a very successful competition.  Thanks to them and all the wonderful teams at the Alamo, we had a very enjoyable and extraordinary experience.  No, we did not win the Alamo Regional, but we did have a very successful regional.

Detroit District Event

The AdamBots had another outstanding robotics weekend at the Detroit District event at Wayne State University the weekend of March 18, 2011.  We finished in third place after the qualification rounds with and 11-1 record.  Our alliances averaged 51 points per game against the average of 19 for the losing alliance.  We were the second seed alliance captain and select the fifth place team, 469 (International Academy form Bloomfield Hills) and the 19th place team 2832 (Livonia High School) as for our alliance.   In the finals, we beat the winning alliance in the first round, but lost to them in the next two matches. We also won the Imagery Award in honor of Jack Kamen and the website award.

Overall we came home with three trophies and a finalist medal.

 Michigan State Championship

If there’s one word to describe this past weekend it’s definitely “wow.”  The AdamBots finished as finalists at arguably the hardest, most competitive event in FIRST. At what other event in FIRST has the #8 alliance scored 143 points? In the finals we played a strong alliance in 67, 33, and 70.  We lost a heartbreaker of a first match, 111-112, getting beat in the minibot race.  We fought back and won second match, 118-97 to take the series to three matches.  In the third and final match, however, we lost 85-111.

Regardless of the outcome, it was a very successful event.  This is our best finish ever at the Michigan State Championship and our highest finish in the state of Michigan at #5 overall.  To technically be considered one of the top six robots in Michigan, is something truly remarkable.

World Championship

After everything we’ve been through this season, it finally came to this. The World Championship was home to 349 teams this year, and for the first time was located in St. Louis at the Edward Jones Dome. We were in the Curie division this year, and tensions were mounted high as we made it to the quarter-finals. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to the semi-finals, but this experience definitely aided us in recognizing what to do better for the following year.
