The 2012 Season
In the 2012 season the AdamBots were again successful. They kicked the year off with the usual design meeting where the team came up with solutions and strategies for the year’s game, Rebound Rumble. From this and other meetings, the team built their robot “Margarita,” a wide chassis robot that was a great solution for the shooting, feeding, and balancing involved in Rebound Rumble. The AdamBots continued to talk with the LamBots throughout the build season, building hype for their competition together at the Alamo Regional.

Victory once again went beyond winning for the AdamBots at the 2012 Alamo Regional. While we only finished in the quarter-finals, the regional proved an excellent learning experience and was highlighted by two non-engineering awards. We won the Website Award for the second time in a row at Alamo and the Entrepreneurship award, thanks to our exceptional business plan. The LamBots, team 3478, also didn’t leave empty handed as they won the Spirit award for their earth shaking cheers.

The 2012 Niles District went well for the Adambots, as we finished in the quarter finals as the number 6 alliance and won the Quality Award for our exceptional organization and team efficiency. While we did not make it past the quarter finals, we performed well, scoring many points in both the autonomous and teleoperated periods and even balancing three robots on the bridge in our final game. Sadly, a win in the first quarter final was disqualified when there was a technical on the field, and we went on to lose the next two matches, ending our competition at Niles.

The Troy District Event was a successful competition for the AdamBots. Once again, we won awards for our website and business plan, qualifying us to attend the Michigan State Championship.

The team went to the State Championships with high spirit, although we knew that a spot in the World Championships would be difficult to achieve as we were ranked in the lower half of the State. Thursday was a disappointing day losing two of our four matches scheduled for the day. Friday lifted our spirits and morale as our redesigned shooter was making baskets left and right and even in the hybrid period. We managed to be picked for the second alliance’s third robot, joining with teams 548, the RoboStangs, and 2054, the TechVikes, to create a very successful 2nd alliance. Although we reached the finals, ultimately we lost to the 1st alliance in two amazing matches. Our losses in the finals were not in vain, as we managed to earn a spot to the FIRST Championship in St. Louis! Making it to the finals was not the only thing the AdamBots achieved at States this year, as we also took home the Website and Entrepreneurship awards!

Ranked 14th and semi-finalists at the Michigan State Championship, the Adambots earned a spot at the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis, Missouri. Going into alliance selection we were ranked 9th and coming out we were the 8th alliance captains. We chose team 1976, the Pioneers, and team 1592, the Bionic Tigers. Overall, the AdamBots had a good season. We won 40 of our 70 matches. We received 60 coopertition bridge points and triple balanced four times. In the Archimedes division, we had one of the highest number of autonomous points. We also won numerous entrepreneurship and websites awards. Afterwards, we held a banquet to pass out awards, varsity letters, and let seniors give their goodbyes to the team.
