Dallas Zoo

Dallas Zoo

The Dallas zoo is located 3 miles south of Dallas and is the largest zoo in Texas. The zoo was founded in 1888 as the first zoo in the southwest. It now covers over 95 acres and is home to over 1,800 animals and 406 different species. When zoo visitors arrive they are greeted by the Dallas Zoo giraffe statue, the tallest statue in Texas.

The Dallas Zoo is divided into two parts ZooNorth and Wilds of Africa. ZooNorth includes many of the traditional animals, such as birds, tigers and elephants. In recent years, the Dallas Zoo has added many new exhibits to ZooNorth, including the Otter Outpost, Galápagos tortoises, and Bug U!

The second section of the zoo, Wilds of Africa, is a nature trail that winds through a wooded section of the zoo. The trial takes visitors past gorillas, chimpanzees, and crocodiles in their natural African habitats. New this year, in Wilds of Africa, is Stingray Bay where visitors can touch and feel stingrays.
